Finding Conferences

Conferences are an important part of staying current with intellectual and academic developments and discussion. There are diverse websites that will alert you to upcoming conferences. Papers are sometimes available via conference websites or accessible via library databases. The following sites will help you to identify forthcoming conferences in your subject area. Also, be sure to check with your professional societies.

  • Ask colleagues and peers for recommendations - where are they presenting?
  • Which conferences are the experts in your field attending? Check their websites or academic platforms like academia.edu
  • Browse current journals and magazines for advertised events. (See the page in this guide for Journals available in AUS Library)
  • Browse organizations' websites including professional societies, associations and universities
  • Sign up for alerts from conference directories (see below for list)

Evaluating Conferences

Ask the following questions to help in choosing and evaluating a conference:

  • Is the conference is of national or international importance?
  • Is the conference sponsored by a university or a respected discipline association?
  • Will the conference papers be published?
  • Will the conference papers be peer-reviewed?
  • Will the conference be indexed (eg in Scopus or Web of Science)?

Scopus - Conference papers selection criteria is available here.

Web of Science - Conference Proceedings Selection Process is available here.
