Promoting Your Research

Promoting your research is a key component of a publishing strategy. It will help you to garner some attention, and network with other scholars on the most popular social media sites for academics.

You have a wide suite of social media options to choose from. There are traditional outlets like Twitter (X), professional sites like LinkedIn, and academic social media sites like Academia.edu and ResearchGate.

Learn more about how to use Social Media to boost your impact in Module 3 of AUS Library's Research Impact Challenge!

Tips for Promoting your Research

Social Media

  • Share your article on various social networks, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Mendeley, and Twitter (X). Try tagging the article's publisher as well as key people in your field. The goal is being retweeted!
  • Contact your publisher and see what avenues they have. Many publishers will share research on their social accounts if supplied with some text to use.
  • Write a blog post to explain the meaning and possible outcomes of your research. A synopsis in plain language is great for attracting attention and is more likely to be shared than the full article.

Link Share

  • Add links to your articles, socials, or academic profiles in your email signature.

  • Share the article link directly with colleagues and peers in your field.
  • Update your personal and institutional websites by adding the title of your article and a link to it.
  • Add a slide to the end of your presentations referencing your article and the journal in which it’s published, including the link so students or conference attendees can find it easily.

Academic Research-Sharing Platforms

  • Set up your profile on academic research-sharing platforms, such as ResearchGate and Academia.edu and add a short summary of your article.
  • Register an ORCID author identifier and add the article information to your profile.
  • Deposit your article to repositories (such as AUS' institutional repository DSpace @ AUS) to make your research more discoverable. Be sure to check your contract to understand your author rights around sharing!
