Citation Elements in Order:

Reference Example:

Lastname, F. M. (Year). Title of entry. In F. M. Lastname (ed.), Title of reference work (edition, page numbers). Publisher.

Proper Bibliographic Reference Format:

  • Bibliographic references are double-spaced and indented half an inch after the first line.
  • Only the title of the reference work is in italics.
  • The editor’s initials precede the family name.
  • Use "sentence-style" capitalization.
  • Note: for major reference works with a large editorial board, list the name of the lead editor, followed by et al.
  • The author and publisher are the same for the dictionaries in the examples, so the name appears in the author element only to avoid repetition.

 

In-Text Citations:  

Citations are placed in the context of discussion using the author’s last name and date of publication.

(Dahlgren, 2008)  

Alternatively, you can integrate the citation into the sentence by means of narrative.

Dahlgren (2008) provides a comprehensive overview of the effects of acid deposition on soils.
