Tracking Research Impact

Why measure research impact?

Providing indication of the quality of your research and scholarly output is now considered an important and standard activity when considering career development and seeking funding for research grants.

Quantitative methods such as citation counts, journal impact factors and researcher specific metrics (collectively referred to as bibliometrics) provide one means of measuring research impact.  Research impact can also be described qualitatively in terms of social and cultural applications and different measures of esteem.

This guide provides a brief introduction to the tools that are available to measure the quantitative and qualitative impact of research.  It also provides guidance on tracking your own impact as a researcher.
